About the Role

The Mental Health Association of Columbia-Greene Counties Inc. is seeking a Part-Time Recreation Attendant for an after-school program serving youth in grades K-8. The Hudson LEAPS Afterschool program provides educational support, recreational opportunities, skill-building, character education, and a nutritional snack. The program focuses on promoting positive attitudes towards school, delaying childbearing, and violence prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an atmosphere that builds friendships, encourages healthy social interactions, and promotes recreational opportunities for children.
  • Communicate clearly with youth employing active listening skills.
  • Establish and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Define expectations clearly.
  • Support and motivate youth in selecting appropriate activities.
  • Respect youth and families’ cultural norms when selecting activities.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate, goal-oriented activities in partnership with youth.
  • Model and reinforce appropriate social behaviors.
  • Adhere to HIPPA privacy laws.
  • Engage with participants regularly outside the office and in the field.
  • Perform daily tasks and timekeeping using basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, and web-based systems.
  • Maintain regular and steady attendance.

Requirements

  • Must have an understanding of cultural family differences and values with the ability to remain non-judgmental.
  • Must have an understanding of HIPPA privacy laws and adhere to them.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of urban, suburban and rural cultures and with community members from varying socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
  • Must be able to work regularly outside the office and in the field to engage with participants.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, and web-based systems for daily tasks and timekeeping.
  • Regular and steady attendance is a requirement for all positions.

  • All offers are contingent upon successful Statewide Central Registry (SCR), fingerprint clearance and possession of a valid NYS driver’s license with a MVR eligible for agency insurance coverage.
