About the Role

The Consumer Care Representative works under close supervision and follows specific procedures to make initial contact with debtors, informing them of delinquencies and advising on repayment options. This role handles routine collections and forwards complex accounts for resolution. It involves entry-level information gathering and verification for specific account situations, following detailed instructions to contact third parties for necessary account information. The position may also conduct follow-up communications and receive/submit hearing requests.

Responsibilities

  • Skip-tracing debtors to locate current residence and employment information.
  • Handling incoming and outgoing collection calls.
  • Negotiating balance in full payments, payment arrangements or legal referrals.
  • Reviewing accounts and schedule contact dates for follow-up calls.
  • Reading and following scripts verbatim.
  • Following Federal/State laws and company policies.
  • Documenting interactions with debtors.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned based on the line of business.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Collection experience preferred.
  • Must not be delinquent on or in default status on any student loans.
  • Must be eligible to be licensed as a collector in certain states.
  • Must safeguard computer systems by following proper username and password management.
  • Must secure desk and workstation when not present.
  • Must lock session and put sensitive paperwork away when not at desk.
  • Must not share username or password with anyone.
  • Must follow all Information Technology policies and procedures.
  • Must report any security violation immediately.
  • Must be physically present in the workplace.
  • Must successfully complete and pass the FDCPA test.
  • Must successfully be approved to work on the contract, per the client’s requirements, state licensing and background check procedure.
