About the Role

This position is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of children in a residential emergency shelter, assisting with record keeping and program functions to ensure the overall care and well-being of the children.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise youth in the Shelter program.
  • Act as a mentor and set a positive example.
  • Oversee and encourage resident participation in group activities.
  • Encourage completion of daily chores and personal hygiene tasks.
  • Provide one-on-one supervision or support as needed.
  • Document resident progress and report significant behavioral changes.
  • Report incidents affecting resident safety.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • Respond appropriately to the individual and special needs of children.
  • Maintain awareness of children's whereabouts.
  • Demonstrate group management and crisis intervention skills.
  • Represent and implement agency, department, and unit policies and procedures.
  • Monitor unit cleanliness and appearance.
  • Respond appropriately to fire alarms and drills.
  • Supervise recreational activities.
  • Complete log entries and incident reports accurately and regularly.
  • Attend and participate in assigned meetings.
  • Use TRC vehicle appropriately and complete van logs.
  • Provide effective supervision of children.
  • Monitor residents' hygiene and health.
  • Maintain appropriate staff-to-resident ratios.
  • Work cooperatively and as a team player.
  • Complete all mandated ORR & Abbott House trainings.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to use a computer and learn software programs.
  • Ability to operate office equipment (fax, copier, scanner).
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English.
  • Ability to write in English with correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Ability to frequently lift 0-25 lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift 25-50 lbs.
  • Ability to rarely lift over 50 lbs.
  • Ability to frequently push/pull 0-25 lbs. of force.
  • Ability to occasionally push/pull 26-45 lbs. force.
  • Ability to rarely push/pull over 45 lbs. force.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the work day.
  • Ability to occasionally stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally kneel.
  • Ability to occasionally crouch.
