About the Role
As the Artist Booker for Sofar London, you will be responsible for booking emerging talent across all genres, ensuring diversity and inclusion. You will manage a complex show schedule, partner with the Bookings & Operations Coordinator and Assistant, and support private and partnership pitches. You will be the primary contact for artists, ensuring their needs are met, and will build relationships with labels, managers, and agents to scout talent and curate premium experiences. This role also involves overseeing the artist committee, selling and executing private shows, curating festival bookings, and building a commercial portfolio. You will report to the GM of London and contribute to the success of global Sofar shows.
Responsibilities
- Curate shows by booking local artists across a complex show schedule (30-40 shows per month).
- Include artists from all genres and demographics in lineups while maintaining high standards.
- Curate experiences that encourage repeat fan attendance.
- Oversee production and artist setups for all shows.
- Negotiate artist fees for larger shows, private events, and premium experiences.
- Support marketing efforts by highlighting artist unique selling propositions and gathering key information.
- Monitor show feedback to maintain quality and improve booking strategy based on customer demands.
- Support freelance producers with artist bookings as needed.
- Oversee new artist applications, committee, and onboarding process, ensuring artists with positive feedback are rebooked.
- Actively seek artists who will drive attendance and awareness.
- Build strong relationships with the artist community through initiatives like Jam nights.
- Build relationships with managers, labels, publicists, and agents to book emerging artists and curate artist-led experiences.
- Identify commercial opportunities, sell private shows, and curate premium experiences.
- Provide direction to the Bookings & Operations Assistant.
- Represent Sofar proactively within the community.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience as a promoter, booking live music events, or in event production.
- Existing network of industry contacts.
- Ability to assess artist quality objectively across genres.
- Exceptional time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Engaging and clear communication skills, capable of managing diverse personalities with empathy.
- Highly organized with the ability to maintain efficient operations and systems.
- Proven track record of upholding quality in high-volume environments.
- Strong sense of ownership, self-motivated with a willingness to learn.
- Commercial mindset with the ability to identify opportunities.
- Knowledge of the music industry, including current trends and market demands.
