About the Role

As an Associate Director, you will manage the structures group, overseeing project delivery with effective resource utilization, maximum profitability, and technical quality. You will also monitor and coach staff performance, implement training, QA, and Health & Safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor resource allocation relative to project fee expenditure, defining CAD requirements and engineering workload forecasts.
  • Manage engineering concept design through to detailed design, tender, and site supervision, ensuring adherence to design briefs and deadlines via design reviews.
  • Ensure technical compliance, consistent quality, and standard for all design projects and reports within the group through regular design reviews and checks.
  • Monitor contract staff or third-party appointments.
  • Maintain excellent client relationships, manage expectations, and promote a team approach to achieve high satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Develop new business opportunities and participate in company presentations.
  • Motivate and manage staff within the group to build high-performing teams, setting objectives, monitoring performance, and coaching for potential.
  • Monitor and control project progress, design variations, and project financial budgets.
  • Implement management and administration systems (timesheets/expenses), and coordinate holiday leave within the group.
  • Carry out staff Personal Development Plans, report performance issues to the Structures Director, and agree on corrective actions.
  • Identify and implement training and CPD requirements for staff within the group.
  • Implement and manage QA systems and procedures on all projects.
  • Implement Company Health and Safety, ensuring designs comply with CDM regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to Quality Management System ISO 9001 and 14001.

Requirements

  • BEng, MSc, or equivalent qualification in Civil, Structural Engineering or a relevant subject.
  • Chartered Engineer or actively pursuing chartered status with ICE, IStructE, or a relevant association.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a design consultancy, including project design and management.
  • Experience monitoring contract staff or third-party appointments is desirable.
  • Ability to undertake computer modeling, organize and direct CAD drawing production, and correspond effectively with other consultants.
  • Experience in a similar position is desired.
  • Competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint.
  • Ability to project a positive and professional attitude at all times.
  • Good knowledge and use of appropriate project and design analysis software.
