About the Role
The Coordinator of Recreation and Self-Advocacy is responsible for planning, organizing, and participating in special activities and trips for individuals with developmental disabilities. This role involves establishing links with community-based recreational facilities and other providers, as well as developing recreation and self-advocacy programs.
Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, and participates in special activities and trips for individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Develops recreation and self-advocacy programs.
- Attends treatment team meetings related to recreation and self-advocacy activities.
- Provides direct supervision of individuals and staff during activities and events.
- Assesses an individual’s ability to participate in activities and required supervision level.
- Ensures the health, safety, and well-being of individuals.
- Assures compliance with all OPWDD regulations.
- Develops and maintains relationships with community entities providing recreation and self-advocacy opportunities.
- Coordinates recreation and self-advocacy activities, including staffing, supplies, transportation, expenses, and timecards.
- Maintains regular contact with residential staff, families, and other professionals.
- Participates in staff meetings as required.
- Adheres to and monitors all regulatory requirements associated with activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by agency administration.
Requirements
- Must be able to use a computer and learn software programs.
- Must be able to operate a fax, copier, scan, and other office equipment.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in the English language.
- Must be able to write in the English language using correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- May frequently lift 0-25 lbs.
- May occasionally lift 25-50 lbs.
- May rarely lift over 50 lbs.
- May frequently push/pull 0-25 lbs. of force.
- May occasionally push/pull 26-45 lbs. force.
- May rarely push/pull over 45 lbs. force.
- Will be required to sit, stand, and walk throughout the work day.
- May occasionally stoop.
- May occasionally kneel.
- May occasionally crouch.
- Bachelor’s degree and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Experience using an electronic health care system to review and manage data.
- Excellent accountability, writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and capacity to build relationships and interact appropriately with staff and external partners.
- Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.
