About the Role

The University of Rochester is seeking an individual to assist providers during exams and perform clinical tasks in outpatient clinics, focusing on patient care, comfort, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Assists providers during exams and performs clinical tasks in outpatient clinics.
  • Applies clinical knowledge and anticipates provider needs during patient exams.
  • Attaches patients to diagnostic and medical equipment.
  • Provides information and comfort to patients during exams, explaining procedures and ensuring readiness of supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures efficient room utilization and minimizes patient wait times.
  • Escorts patients, obtains vital signs, performs diagnostic testing, and collects/processes specimens.
  • Enters patient data into the electronic medical record system and performs administrative duties.
  • Maintains adequacy of clinical equipment and medical supply levels, including inventory management and reordering.
  • Implements standard infection prevention measures and monitors for breaches.
  • Precepts new Ambulatory Technologists under RN oversight.
  • May assist providers with surgical procedures, including preparing rooms, instrumentation, and patient instructions.
  • Checks, calibrates, and sterilizes equipment and instruments.
  • Prepares and labels specimens accurately for the lab.
  • Reviews discharge instructions with patients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 year of experience in a customer-focused/service setting required.
  • 1 year of progressively responsible professional work experience as an ambulatory technologist required.
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.

Skills

  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures preferred.
  • Computer experience preferred.
