About the Role
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) supports individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in a residential treatment setting. The DSP implements daily living skills, provides therapeutic partnering, and ensures the health and safety of individuals.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day care including supervision of personal hygiene, social guidance, and food preparation.
- Develop, supervise, and run activity sessions.
- Accompany individuals on trips and outings.
- Perform SCIP restraint if necessary, after appropriate training.
- Drive individuals to appointments.
- Accompany individuals on medical appointments as an interdisciplinary team liaison.
- Share observations of individuals with the IDT team and report unusual issues to supervisors.
- Assist/supervise individuals with meal preparation, adhering to dietary needs.
- Ensure individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
- Support and encourage individual decision-making to promote independence.
- Oversee activities of daily living and personal hygiene.
- Assist the Residence Manager in developing and implementing community inclusion activities.
- Work with individuals in group or one-on-one settings.
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings.
- Travel to offsite meetings and trainings as needed.
- Complete timely documentation of all interactions in electronic records.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.
- Complete incident reports as appropriate.
- Administer medication as needed.
- Comply with Divisional specific Jewish Orthodox culture and practices.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Driver's License preferred for insurance requirements.
- Experience with similar population in a residential setting preferred.
- Bilingual is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
- Aptitude for learning new systems and software applications.
- Ability to travel in the community with individuals utilizing an agency vehicle.
- Ability to engage in physical activities with residents.
- Ability to reach paper and electronic documents.
- Ability to perform data entry into various computer programs.
- Routinely required to sit (25% of the time) and stand (75% of the time).
- Ability to travel to visit individuals in apartments or escort them in the community.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds to assist individuals and manage stairs.
- Assist individuals with mobility, lifting, and supporting daily activities.
- Capable of lifting and/or assisting in lifting individuals who may have limited mobility or require assistance with transfers.
