About the Role
The American Dream School is seeking a fully bilingual (Spanish/English) motivated, goal-oriented Living Environment Teacher to join their team. This role is an opportunity to contribute to a school dedicated to serving English Language Learners and fostering bilingualism and biliteracy, preparing students for college and community leadership.
Responsibilities
- Provides academic advisement supporting college and career readiness.
- Communicates and meets with students’ parents/guardians.
- Promotes a sense of urgency in learning.
- Plans and facilitates community meetings and advisory curriculum.
- Provides monitoring and academic assistance to teachers.
- Supervises and manages students in hallways.
- Prepares reports on student academic performance.
- Motivates reluctant learners to complete assignments.
- Assists in the distribution, collection, and grading of tests and homework.
- Observes students' performance and records relevant data.
- Participates in teacher-parent conferences.
- Provides extra assistance to students with special needs.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings.
- Creates meaningful interim assessments to drive instruction.
- Promotes a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Confers and provides feedback to teachers or counselors regarding student progress.
- Tutors and assists children individually or in small groups.
- Supervises and manages students in all spaces, upholding ADS core values, rules, and policies.
- Instructs, maintains, and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials.
- Maintains accurate records and creates reports.
- Assists with breakfast/lunch duties.
- Performs other assigned duties.
- Follows a co-teaching model.
- Creates and maintains bulletin boards to showcase student work.
- Facilitates “hands-on” experiments and projects.
- Creates annual goals for students’ IEPs.
- Implements and tracks the progress of annual IEP goals.
- Writes progress reports for students as requested.
- Participates in yearly IEP conferences.
- Establishes appropriate modifications and goals for each student.
- Develops and teaches clear and engaging lessons aligned with the Common Core curriculum.
- Provides instruction toward preparation for the Regents exam.
- Holds students accountable for high behavioral expectations and implements the behavior management system.
- Actively participates in grade-level meetings, collaborative planning, and professional development.
- Collaborates with department members to refine the Science curriculum.
- Utilizes assessment data to drive instruction and ensure student mastery of standards.
- Builds a warm and inclusive classroom environment using Responsive Classroom practices.
- Actively participates in opportunities to strengthen pedagogical skills and contribute to colleagues' learning.
- Serves as an advisor to a group of students.
- Contributes to the school’s smooth operation by fulfilling administrative duties and maintaining communication.
- Accepts responsibility for student academic progress and overcomes setbacks.
- Assists with SMI/SRI testing.
- Plans and executes quarterly Math days.
Requirements
- Bilingual Spanish/English; preferred
- New York State Certified (accepts other states credentials)
- Demonstrates solid knowledge and understanding of math content
- Strong organizational skills
- Maintains confidentiality and meets deadlines
- Completes assignments with consistent accuracy
- Tech-savvy; familiarity and experience with Microsoft Office, Gmail, Google docs/drive
- Effective verbal, writing, and listening skills
