About the Role

The Associate Patient Access Representative (APAR) is the first point of contact for visitors, managing customer service, patient registration, and financial clearance. This role involves check-ins, scheduling, payment collection, insurance verification, and compliance management, ensuring smooth workflows and adherence to guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Handles customer service, patient registration, and financial clearance.
  • Performs check-ins, scheduling, payment collection, and insurance verification.
  • Manages compliance.
  • Ensures smooth workflows and adherence to guidelines.
  • Prepares patients administratively and financially for visits.
  • Performs front-office and back-office functions.
  • Completes Admissions, Discharges, and Transfers in a timely manner.
  • Monitors and performs all patient hospital and/or ambulatory movement.
  • Utilizes EPIC work queue to pre-register scheduled patients.
  • Verifies medical necessity in accordance with CMS standards.
  • Communicates relevant coverage and eligibility information to the patient.
  • Accurately identifies and enters patient demographics, insurance, and financial information.
  • Gathers and verifies all appropriate, confidential health and financial information from patients.
  • Uses various computer software to assure payment for all authorized services.
  • Confirms the completeness of the electronic health record (EHR) and makes necessary changes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 1+ years of experience in a healthcare office setting and/or work history with strong customer service background preferred.
  • Proficient in all types of registrations (inpatient, outpatient, and emergency admits).
