About the Role
Operates one or more types of heavy equipment, including backhoes, forklifts, graders, tractors, and front-end loaders, for waste transfer, spreading, covering, loading, and compacting at a landfill.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the maintenance and upkeep of the landfill site, including litter removal.
- Performs pre/post operation inspection of equipment in accordance with safety standards and regulations.
- Ensures all safety equipment and devices are operational and secured properly.
- Monitors waste for evidence of unacceptable or hazardous waste.
- Monitors equipment condition frequently to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime.
- Cleans tracks or wheels on equipment as needed.
- Performs and documents minor service on equipment, referring complex issues to maintenance.
- Operates heavy equipment following all safety and training protocols.
- Ensures the facility is properly maintained.
- Observes equipment operation and performs troubleshooting as necessary.
- Assists technicians with maintenance and communicates mechanical issues.
- Follows all required safety policies and procedures.
- Participates in training and learning opportunities.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the US.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Two years of prior experience in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
- Physical ability to perform duties in various weather conditions.
- Proven commitment to work and safety.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are required.
