About the Role
As a Patient Companion, you will help facilitate Cleveland Clinic's mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care. You will assist RNs, physicians, dietitians, and other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. Responsibilities
- Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry.
- Observe three to four patients if assigned to a closed unit.
- Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.
- Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers and ambulation.
- Collect patient specimens for laboratory testing.
- Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.
- Follow protocols and initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required.
- Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross for healthcare providers upon or within the three months of hire
- Completion of a hospital-based patient companion training program or equivalent experience OR currently enrolled at an accredited school of Nursing, with completion of a Nursing Fundamentals Course OR have completed hospital-based NA/PC orientation or equivalent
- Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
- Must comply with the influenza prevention program, which includes obtaining an annual influenza vaccination or an approved exemption.

Experience Level

- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
