About the Role
As a Linux Engineering intern, you'll work side by side with full-timers to learn how we build and maintain the critical infrastructure underlying our firm's technology. You will collaborate on real-world projects, mentored by full-time employees, focusing on Linux systems and software engineering skills. This role offers a unique opportunity to experience real-time operational work and see how the team interacts with other groups.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with full-time employees on real-world projects.
- Learn how to build and maintain critical infrastructure.
- Work closely with the operating system layer, potentially diving into firmware or physical hardware.
- Investigate performance issues from application to hardware layers.
- Fix kernel bugs.
- Respond to datacenter issues in real time.
- Analyze data to improve monitoring systems.
- Build automation for manual workflows.
- Experience real-time operational work alongside experienced full-timers.
- Resolve emerging issues in production infrastructure.
- Perform root-cause analyses.
Requirements
- Knowledgeable about operating system fundamentals and computer architecture.
- Experienced with systems programming concepts like sockets, virtual memory, and the process life cycle.
- Able to understand network protocols at a basic level.
- Comfortable at the command-line of a Linux machine.
- Fluent with basic introspection and troubleshooting common aspects of a Linux system.
- Solves problems by writing code (in any language) and is invested in robust software engineering.
- Intellectually curious, collaborative, and eager to learn.
- Humble and unafraid to ask questions.
- A strong communicator.
- Fluent in English.
