About the Role

QueerSafe is seeking a freelance professional for psychosocial counseling of individuals affected by queer-hostile digital violence. This role involves stabilizing and supporting clients, developing personalized coping strategies, and providing information on next steps with platforms or authorities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for consultations based on the client's submitted report.
  • Provide psychosocial counseling to clients via video calls.
  • Support clients in developing strategies for dealing with queer-hostile online violence, focusing on their needs and wishes.
  • Accompany clients in a resource-oriented and empowering manner.
  • Provide information on potential next steps, such as dealing with platforms or authorities.
  • Document consultations in the case database.
  • Prepare post-consultation summaries with relevant links and resources for clients.
  • Participate in case discussions, team meetings, and supervision sessions with the QueerSafe team and other freelance professionals.
  • Contribute to the further development of the counseling guidelines.

Requirements

  • Registered as a self-employed freelancer.
  • Experience in counseling individuals in stressful life situations (e.g., counseling, psychosocial support, social work, peer counseling, or similar).
  • In-depth knowledge of queer life realities, working with queer sensitivity, including trans*, inter*, and non-binary sensitivity.
  • Proficient use of queer-sensitive and gender-sensitive language.
  • Ideally, proficiency in English and the ability to conduct consultations with the assistance of interpreters.
  • Sensitivity to other forms of marginalization, such as racism, anti-Semitism, ableism, classism, or sexism.
  • Familiarity with at least one major social media platform (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or X).
  • Familiarity with other online platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, dating platforms, Discord, Twitch) or the ability to quickly learn new tools and platforms.
  • Knowledge of legal options for hate crimes and digital violence, or motivation to acquire this knowledge with support.
  • Comfortable cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
  • Completed university degree (Bachelor's or FH Diploma) in (Social) Pedagogy, Psychology, or comparable fields.
  • Openness to applying for the position regardless of background, with a particular welcome for applications from intersectionally positioned individuals with diverse community ties and experiences.
  • Willingness to engage in continuous self-reflection regarding blind spots and to view criticism as a vital part of the work.
