About the Role
As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the administrative and technical aspects of constructing a project, managing a team of field and cost engineers. You will be the main conduit of information between the construction manager and the team for cost, revenue, and cash flow information, with opportunities to develop your team members.
Responsibilities
- Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
- Examine and inspect field conditions, identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures, and take corrective actions.
- Inspect subordinates' work for compliance with contract plans and specifications, identify deficiencies, and take corrective action.
- Evaluate directions and suggestions from supervisors for safe and proper work practices to devise and implement a plan.
- Observe the functionality of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
- Identify workplace safety hazards and take necessary corrective action.
- Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
- Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures safely.
- Develop and maintain the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and software.
- Manage document control, including receiving, logging, and distributing new issue drawings and contract documents.
- Review new issue drawings and contract documents for changes, quantify impacts, and review with supervisors.
- Prepare monthly cost projections and quarterly cash flow projections.
- Purchase and expedite material delivery, and manage material control operations.
- Assist the site manager in implementing the project quality/assurance control program.
- Improve project operations by recommending better methods, staffing, and procedural changes.
- Act as managing project engineer/coordinator on multiple projects, providing supervision and on-the-job training.
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Perform basic arithmetic rapidly and accurately.
- Read and understand plans and specifications.
- Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related field or equivalent experience and education in project or field engineering.
- Must be a licensed P.Eng. or registered member as an Engineer-in-Training or eligible to register.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in construction with an emphasis on safety.
- Working knowledge and ability to direct the operation of accounts payable/accounts receivable, materials control, estimating, job cost updates, and subcontracts management systems.
- Proven abilities and skills in leadership and management of people, communication (verbal and written), planning, organization, delegation, teaching, and mentoring.
- Ability to relocate and travel as business needs arise.
- Ability to set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity for subordinates.
- Ability to access all areas of the construction site.
- Regular, reliable attendance.
- Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others.
- Perform work safely and effectively.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
