About the Role
This senior engineering leadership role has end-to-end responsibility for application development and core engineering across FX Partnerships Technology. The FX Technology platform is critical to Citi's Markets FX business, operating 24/7 globally and providing essential FX services to Payments and Custody businesses. The role requires a passionate, hands-on technologist to lead application development teams, set technical direction, raise engineering standards, and build resilient teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior-level engineering leadership across the FX Partnerships Technology platform, spanning application development and core engineering capabilities.
- Own the technical health, resilience, and evolution of a mission-critical, globally distributed, 24/7 platform.
- Set and continuously raise engineering standards across architecture, development, testing, deployment, and operational support.
- Drive the design and development of scalable, resilient system architectures in close partnership with business stakeholders.
- Lead multiple application development teams responsible for delivering core FX Partnerships platforms.
- Own and evolve core engineering components and shared capabilities that underpin the platform.
- Balance delivery speed with platform stability, resilience, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure systems are designed for operability, performance, and availability at global scale.
- Lead, mentor, and develop senior engineering leaders and managers across regions globally.
- Build teams that value curiosity, accountability, craftsmanship, and continuous learning.
- Attract and develop engineers with strong fundamentals, great attitudes, and a passion for solving complex problems.
- Create an environment where engineers are empowered to challenge, improve, and innovate.
- Partner closely with Markets business leaders to align technology priorities with FX & Services business strategy.
- Contribute to the long-term technology vision for FX, including modernisation, simplification, and scalability initiatives.
- Own delivery execution across a complex portfolio—planning, prioritisation, budgeting, and progress transparency.
- Prepare and present regular updates to senior technology and business leadership.
- Ensure change is delivered with strong engineering discipline, governance, and controls appropriate to a global regulated business.
- Maintain robust production management practices, including incident management, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Own disaster recovery and resilience strategies, overseeing testing and readiness for all critical applications.
- Proactively identify, manage, and escalate technology and operational risk.
- Act as a visible and credible senior engineering leader within FX Technology.
- Lead local and global forums, sharing platform vision, progress, and priorities.
- Role-model ethical behaviour, accountability, and sound judgement in all decision-making.
Requirements
- A senior engineer and technology leader, comfortable owning complex, business-critical platforms.
- Deep experience leading application development and/or core engineering teams at scale.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and architectural judgement, regardless of specific technology background.
- A passion for using technology to solve real business problems in fast-moving markets.
- A leadership philosophy that values people, potential, and culture as much as delivery.
- Experience working in or with global, distributed engineering teams, including India.
- Ability to balance innovation with resilience, risk management, and regulatory discipline.
- Extensive experience in senior engineering or technology leadership roles within financial services, markets, or similarly complex regulated environments preferred (Ideally FX)
- Strong understanding of enterprise platforms operating at global scale
