About the Role
The Laboratory Team Leader ensures the provision of accurate analytical and performance data for customers, finance, refinery operations, and raw sugar supply. This role supports Quality, Process, and Packing managers, builds relationships with factory teams, and provides timely results to meet site requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead the laboratory team, maximizing operational efficiency and minimizing costs while ensuring safe working practices.
- Ensure the completion of routine chemical analysis and collaborate with operators and the laboratory team.
- Ensure the laboratory team is trained and proficient in procedures, maintaining adequate records.
- Prioritize laboratory workload and establish testing regimes to validate refinery and packing performance and specification compliance.
- Manage and audit subcontracting of routine microbiological and chemical analysis, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and value.
- Provide analytical data required by customers, finance, raw sugar supply, corporate quality, and operational teams within agreed timescales.
- Maintain accurate recording of results and ensure timely SAP updates.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure calibrations are completed within required timescales.
- Maintain adequate stocks of consumables and laboratory chemicals, ensuring safe storage.
- Ensure the laboratory is clean, tidy, and maintained to meet site, BRC, and customer requirements.
- Ensure COSHH and safe methods of working are in place for all laboratory operations and are reviewed regularly.
- Proactively champion safety and continuous improvement within the department and site.
- Provide support for customer inquiries related to the Thames site, including CofA issues.
- Participate in the site internal audit programs.
- Manage the laboratory spending on consumables and chemicals.
Requirements
- Experience in a laboratory environment in a similar management role.
- Exposure to sugar and/or food industry best practice.
