About the Role

Lead the development and evolution of customer-focused products and propositions within an established operating environment. Ensure products are designed and managed in line with risk, control, and governance frameworks, operating safely, compliantly, and in accordance with regulatory requirements. Identify needs and solve problems, ensuring products deliver a seamless experience through effective features, accessibility, and usability. Assess commercial viability, balancing customer value with business objectives, including costing and profitability considerations. Drive the delivery of change and continuous improvement, while engaging in market testing and proposition validation to ensure solutions meet customer demand and achieve sustainable commercial success.

Responsibilities

  • Develop customer-level strategies and solutions tailored to customer needs.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in the applicable Product/Proposition team, guiding stakeholders on product application and customer/colleague journeys.
  • Develop product propositions and/or service strategy, defining priorities for strategy execution.
  • Develop commercial and business models by understanding financial drivers of the P&L.
  • Evaluate technical feasibility, legal compliance, and potential risks of new product development and launch.
  • Monitor market trends and analyze feedback from internal employees and target customers to identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage comprehensive launch plans and technical deployments, establishing rollout timelines, marketing strategies, training, and communication channels.
  • Monitor key metrics such as adoption rates, usage patterns, customer satisfaction, and revenue generation to assess product performance.
  • Contribute to or set strategy, drive requirements, and make recommendations for change.
  • Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies/processes; deliver continuous improvements and escalate breaches.
  • If managing a team: define jobs and responsibilities, plan for future needs and operations, counsel employees on performance, and contribute to pay decisions.
  • If leading specialists: influence department operations in alignment with strategic and tactical priorities, balancing short and long-term goals, and ensuring budget/schedule requirements are met.
  • Demonstrate leadership behaviors to create an environment for colleagues to thrive.
  • As an individual contributor: be a subject matter expert, guide technical direction, lead collaborative assignments, guide team members, identify needs for other specializations, and train/guide/coach less experienced specialists.
  • Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management, on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of organization functions to contribute to business goals.
  • Collaborate with other work areas for business-aligned support.
  • Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought, comparing and selecting complex alternatives.
  • Define problems and develop innovative solutions through in-depth analysis and interpretative thinking.

  • Build and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders using influencing and negotiating skills.

Requirements

  • Product management experience, with the ability to develop, manage, and optimize products and propositions to meet customer, regulatory, and business needs.
  • Experience within the banking sector, with knowledge of regulated environments, product governance, risk frameworks, and customer-focused product design.
  • Commercial and transformation delivery experience, including delivering change projects, assessing commercial opportunities, and working across teams to drive successful business outcomes.
  • Knowledge of the Data and AI agenda, with an understanding of how data, analytics, and AI can enhance customer experiences, improve decision-making, and support business objectives.
  • Experience within Financial Services, with a good understanding of the products, customer needs, and regulatory requirements that shape the industry.
  • Knowledge of Consumer Duty and FCA Product Governance, ensuring customer outcomes, product oversight, and regulatory expectations are considered throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital and technology skills.
