About the Role
The Director of Student Support Services will develop, implement, and oversee special education programs. This role collaborates with educators, administrators, and families to ensure students with special needs receive necessary support for academic success and personal growth. The Director ensures high-quality, accessible instruction, meets student needs, and maintains compliance with special education regulations. This position is ideal for an educator with a strong educational and clinical background and systems thinking skills, working closely with school-based coordinators.
Responsibilities
- Design, document, and maintain the network-wide SWD/MLL service delivery model, including the intervention continuum, screening calendar, intervention block structure, and COST meeting system.
- Build and maintain the data infrastructure for SWD/MLL monitoring, including network reports, COST meeting preparation, and quarterly equity audits.
- Facilitate and implement the incoming MLL protocol, including NYSITELL, academic screening, and evaluation referral decision criteria.
- Refine the intervention tracking and placement system for middle and high school, ensuring facilitators have the necessary tools and training.
- Design and maintain a compliance calendar for all schools and manage the annual review tracking system.
- Coach and develop SPED Coordinators and ELL Teachers as a thought partner and capacity builder.
- Develop co-teachers from behavioral management to genuine instructional partnership, leading co-teaching model training.
- Train principals and APs on COST meeting facilitation, data literacy for SWD/MLL subgroups, and WIN block oversight.
- Model and uphold a standard of belief in the capacity of SWD and MLL students.
- Chair the monthly Network MTSS Leadership Team meeting.
- Support and co-facilitate COST meetings at all three schools, especially during system establishment.
- Attend inquiry cycle data meetings at each school to connect instructional improvement data with SWD/MLL system data.
- Facilitate the quarterly equity audit with school leadership, analyzing academic growth, discipline, and attendance by various demographics.
- Own S2's IDEA compliance posture, including IEP implementation fidelity, evaluation timelines, Child Find obligations, and family notification.
- Ensure Part 154 compliance for all MLL students, confirming service minutes and auditing ELL Teacher schedules.
- Ensure families of SWD and MLL students are treated as partners in the MTSS process.
- Oversee family communication protocols for IEP annual reviews, evaluation referrals, and intervention placements, ensuring Spanish-language access.
- Advise the CAO on making the SWD/MLL model visible and understandable to families.
Requirements

- Masters Degree and New York state certification as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities.
- At least 3 years of experience as a special education teacher.
- Evidence of deep knowledge of special education compliance and effective practice.
- Adept problem-solver with demonstrated ability to think critically, plan strategically, and perform detailed data analysis.
- Skilled in written and oral communication to diverse audiences and facilitating decision-making.
- Proactive and fast learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to provide high-leverage feedback via classroom observations and school walk-throughs.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and instruction, co-curricular and extracurricular design, and training/development measurement.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data.
- Demonstrated experience using technology as both a management and instructional tool.
- High appreciation for and ability to work in and lead a diverse community.
- Team-player capable of working both collaboratively and independently.
- Ability to engage, enlist, and energize others in ongoing improvement of learning and teaching.
