About the Role
Provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons, performing patient care and administrative duties to ensure quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, including checking schedules, organizing patient flow, assisting patients with mobility and personal care, collecting specimens, and preparing patients for exams.
- Assists physicians with procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and families, and answers calls providing pertinent information.
- Manages patient medical records, obtains necessary reports and information, and completes forms and requisitions using EMR or manual systems.
- Enters orders into the EMR system or prepares prescription refill requests for physician review.
- Manages inventory, orders, and restocks medical supplies.
- Prepares examination rooms and instruments, adhering to sterilization techniques and infection control policies.
- Maintains logging systems for medications, point of care testing, sterilization, and crash carts.
- Monitors expiration dates on medications and supplies, disposing of them according to policy.
- Ensures a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards, procedures, and legal regulations.
- Complies with personal protective equipment requirements to prevent exposure to hazardous substances.
- Assists in maintaining medical charts, including filing reports and test results.
- May schedule surgeries/procedures, verify times with patients, and prepare necessary documentation.
- May perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
- May perform appointment scheduling, patient registration, and update demographic and insurance information.
- May maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules.
- May verify and update insurance information using internal or web sources.
- May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures.
- Mentors less experienced Medical Assistant staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- 2+ years as Medical Assistant
- Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school or equivalent training and experience
