About the Role

The Medical Assistant II provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons, performing patient care and administrative duties necessary for quality patient care. Key tasks include basic patient rooming, EKGs, Point of Care Testing, and EPIC documentation. This role requires at least 2+ years of experience in a specialized area such as phlebotomy, pulmonary testing, surgery, or cardiology.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities, including performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules, organizing patient flow, assisting patients with mobility and dressing, collecting and processing specimens, and point of care testing.
  • Assists physicians with procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and families, and answers calls.
  • Manages clerical responsibilities, including sending/receiving medical records, obtaining reports and referral information, and completing forms.
  • Enters orders into the EPIC system or prepares prescription refill requests for physician review.
  • Manages inventory, orders, and restocks medical supplies.
  • Prepares examination rooms and instruments, ensuring proper sterilization techniques.
  • Monitors expiration dates on medications and supplies, disposing of them appropriately.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment, complying with legal regulations and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Assists in the maintenance of medical charts.
  • May perform duties in specialized areas like phlebotomy, pulmonary testing, surgery, or cardiology.
  • May perform appointment scheduling, patient registration, and update demographic and insurance information.
  • May verify and update insurance information and perform pre-certification for procedures.
  • Provides training and mentoring to Level I MA staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school
  • 2+ years experience as Medical Assistant
  • BCLS certification Required - Issuing Authority: AHA
