About the Role

Provide expert legal and regulatory guidance across WEX's Corporate Payments and Mobility businesses in EMEA, helping shape business decisions, support innovation, and ensure compliance within a fast-paced, international fintech environment. You will work closely with senior leaders, Compliance, Product, Commercial, and Financial Operations teams, playing a key role in regulatory horizon scanning, engaging with regulators, advising on new products and market expansion, and influencing business strategy across the EMEA region.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regulatory and commercial legal support for WEX’s regulated entities operating in the EMEA region.
  • Monitor regulatory horizons and provide strategic regulatory legal guidance on applicable current and prospective regulations.
  • Offer strategic regulatory guidance for WEX’s business strategies, initiatives, and imperatives in the EMEA region, including for entities in the Mobility and Corporate Payments sectors.
  • Engage with regulators, industry bodies, lobbyists, and external consultants, including external legal counsel.
  • Liaise with WEX’s compliance team, senior management, board members of regulated entities, and internal business stakeholders.
  • Advise on requirements for and provide drafting support for risk frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Support intra-group and partner contractual arrangements to ensure compliance with key regulator focus areas.
  • Manage regulatory monitoring, review, and ensure WEX is prepared for regulatory changes, including responding to consultations.
  • Identify legal and regulatory issues associated with operating in new markets.
  • Manage license and other applications with regulators, including licensing or compliant cross-border service provision efforts in new markets.
  • Provide strategic regulatory legal guidance for product development and evolution to support business growth and innovation.
  • Collaborate closely with and support the Compliance, Financial Operations, Commercial, and Product teams.
  • Assist with special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB).
  • Post-qualification experience in payments and financial services law and regulation, ideally with some in-house experience.
  • Located in the UK.
  • Strong technical ability and knowledge.
  • Experience in providing legal services for regulated payments firms is ideal.
  • Experience in providing regulatory legal guidance and support is ideal.
  • Clear and articulate communication skills.
  • Excellence in flexible problem-solving, analysis, and issue resolution.
  • Ability to work closely with a variety of business stakeholders, network internally, and build confidence.
  • Experience working with regulators in EMEA would be highly attractive.
