About the Role

The Service Engineer provides technical engineering support for the maintenance of Horizon Air’s aircraft, focusing on a specialty area or specific ATA chapters. This role contributes to establishing process improvements for preventative aircraft maintenance procedures and reliability to support operational performance goals, aiming for safety, cost reduction, and efficient fleet maintenance. It requires a strong commitment to safety and compliance within a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop repair, alteration, and maintenance specifications and provide engineering assistance.
  • Prepare and issue Engineering Orders (EO), Fleet Campaign Directives (FCD), and Engineering Authorizations (EA).
  • Provide input into preventative maintenance procedures and reliability improvements.
  • Offer technical expertise to Maintenance Control and technicians for aircraft issues.
  • Provide engineering assistance through analysis of aircraft in-service difficulties.
  • Review OEM and regulatory documents and make recommendations.
  • Monitor out-of-service aircraft, delay reports, watch items, and MELs for corrective actions.
  • Make recommendations for ATA chapters to subject matter experts.
  • Become familiar with part interchangeability and configuration.
  • Become familiar with relevant FAA 14 CFR regulations.
  • Analyze data to develop project plans for fleet reliability initiatives, including business case proposals.
  • Liaise with Inflight, Flight Ops, Planning, Materials, and Maintenance departments to accomplish project plans.
  • Develop presentations for the monthly Reliability Review Board.
  • Validate project plans on-site with maintenance technicians.
  • Assume full ownership of assigned project plans.
  • Research and analyze technical data and modify existing company technical data.
  • Review monthly reliability reports for long-term trends and develop corrective action plans.
  • Collaborate with other airline departments when engineering action is requested.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and owner of assigned ATA chapters.
  • Mentor newer employees.
  • Consider strategic connections between assigned areas and other related elements.
  • Potentially be assigned as an owner to supplemental programs, working with regulatory authorities and industry working groups.
  • Represent the company at industry activities and steering committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or related engineering discipline, OR two years of engineering or related experience, OR four years of aircraft maintenance experience in lieu of a degree (for Associate Service Engineer).

  • Valid passport and ability to travel as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • 2 years of aviation engineering experience or relevant engineering experience; or 4 years of aircraft maintenance experience (for Service Engineer).
  • 4 years of aviation engineering experience or relevant engineering experience; or 8 years of aircraft maintenance experience (for Senior Service Engineer).
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, operating policies, and procedures (Preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Aviation safety standards and safe operating practices, Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs), and relevant maintenance and airworthiness requirements (Preferred).
  • Prior airline or aircraft manufacturer experience (Preferred).
  • Trax experience (Preferred).
  • Must obtain and maintain an Airport SIDA badge.

  • Associate Service Engineer: $59,650 - $83,500
  • Service Engineer: $71,900 - $107,850
