About the Role

This role supports ongoing financial reporting and accounting operations for Amgen K.K. (AKK) and the establishment of a new accounting entity, ABGK. It combines ownership of core financial reporting and Record-to-Report (R2R) activities with driving finance transformation initiatives, including SAP S/4HANA implementation and process simplification. The position is crucial for ensuring financial integrity, statutory compliance, and operational excellence, supporting Amgen's future biosimilar and biosame business. This individual contributor role offers broad exposure and requires strong leadership through influence.

Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end Record-to-Report (R2R) process and ensure full GAAP compliance with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
Prepare, review, and analyze financial data and information in accordance with Amgen policies and applicable accounting standards.
Own both US GAAP and J-GAAP financial accounting & reporting activities.
Coordinate with internal & external auditors and applicable regulatory authorities.
Support corporate tax, consumption tax, and other statutory tax reporting requirements.
Ensure internal control and policy compliance across applicable financial accounting processes.
Act as the accounting subject-matter-expert for strategic business initiatives and cross-functional projects.
Partner with the Amgen capability centre to ensure high-quality accounting services.
Support SAP ECC enhancements and SAP S/4HANA implementation from an accounting perspective.
Support testing and cutover readiness activities for S/4HANA go-live.
Drive accounting process simplification, standardization, automation, and control improvement.
Support AI and digital finance initiatives to enhance quality, operational efficiency, and finance governance.
Establish ABGK’s statutory accounting, reporting, and tax compliance processes.
Own the SOP documentation and implementation of applicable accounting processes for ABGK.
Manage Service Level Agreements (SLAs), cost allocation methodologies, project accounting, and finance support for ABGK.
Oversee ABGK set up in S/4HANA to ensure operational readiness.
Build effective partnerships across multiple functions within and outside of Finance.
Provide accounting guidance to support business decision-making and identify risks.
Manage projects effectively by maintaining trackers, monitoring delays, identifying key stakeholders, and communicating updates.

Requirements

Manage the full set of books in J-GAAP and US GAAP.
Balance core controllership responsibilities with process transformation, system, and business readiness project initiatives.
Possess strong technical accounting knowledge and experience.
Demonstrate project execution capability.
Have SAP system knowledge.
Ability to influence stakeholders in a dynamic environment.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
Japanese Certified Public Accountant (JCPA) certification is a must.
US CPA or another internationally recognized accounting qualification is an advantage.
Minimum 7–10 years of experience with career progression in financial accounting and reporting with multinational corporations or public accounting firms.
Strong experience in end-to-end R2R processes, including financial close and Japanese statutory accounting and reporting compliance.
Experience in supporting direct and indirect tax compliance, external audit, internal control verification (e.g. SoX), and accounting policy implementation.
Hands-on user experience with SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.
Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable balancing operational responsibilities with transformation initiatives.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, drive process improvement, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
