About the Role

University Settlement partners with over 40,000 New Yorkers to build collective strengths for healthy, stable, and remarkable lives. For nearly 140 years, we have fought poverty and inequality by building effective social services in collaboration with our neighbors. We are seeking individuals to join our team and make a difference in the lives of youth.

Responsibilities

  • Create and lead engaging activities for up to 20 youth, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Design and implement lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities using knowledge of positive youth development.
  • Provide academic assistance during homework periods.
  • Plan and involve children in a range of multidisciplinary activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model for youth and uphold professional behavior.
  • Work constructively with co-counselors and colleagues, communicating regularly with supervisory staff.
  • Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student progress and problem-solving.
  • Maintain responsibility for designated program supplies and proper use of all facilities.
  • Complete all necessary documentation and administrative tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or HSE required.
  • Current enrollment in college is a plus.
  • Experience working with middle and high school population.
  • Ability to commit for the entire school year.
  • Must be over 18 years old.
  • Highly energetic, dynamic, and positive demeanor.
