About the Role

University Settlement partners with over 40,000 New Yorkers annually to foster healthy, stable, and remarkable lives. As the first Settlement House in the United States, founded in 1886, we combat poverty and systemic inequality by developing effective social services in partnership with our communities. Our programs integrate civic engagement, equality, and communal action across various services including early childhood education, youth development, healthy aging, mental health, adult education, community centers, and the arts.

Responsibilities

Create and lead engaging activities for up to 20 youth, ensuring their safety and comfort.
Design and implement lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities, incorporating positive youth development principles and student feedback.
Provide academic assistance during homework periods.
Plan and involve children in a range of multidisciplinary activities and thematic lessons.
Serve as a positive role model for youth and maintain professional behavior.
Work constructively with co-counselors and colleagues, communicating regularly with supervisory staff.
Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student progress and problem-solving.
Maintain responsibility for designated program supplies and proper use of facilities.
Complete all necessary documentation and administrative tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

High School Diploma or HSE required.
Experience working with middle and high school populations.
Ability to commit for the entire school year.
Must be over 18 years old.
Highly energetic, dynamic, and positive demeanor.
