About the Role

University Settlement partners with over 40,000 New Yorkers annually to foster healthy, stable, and remarkable lives through effective social services and community building. Responsibilities

• Knows and understands basketball and/or volleyball rules and any changes.
• Studies player skills and abilities to position them effectively.
• Recognizes and uses player talents to devise plays and strategies.
• Coaches middle school and high school players.
• Devises drills and practice exercises for game preparation.
• Teaches players the rules of the game and how to avoid penalties.
• Works with individual players to hone skills and eliminate bad habits.
• Collaborates with co-coach to improve team skill level.
• Implements systems to maximize building and program operations.
• Oversees day-to-day operations of the Saturday Night Lights Program.
• Attends event committee meetings, weekly team meetings, and other assigned meetings.
• Assists Campos Plaza Director in daily parent outreach via phone, email, and personal meetings.
• Supervises group leaders and support staff.
• Provides direct program service as an experienced staff member.
• Responsible for building maintenance and closure.
• Performs other duties assigned by supervisor(s).

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Understand the fundamentals of basketball and/or volleyball.
• Previous coaching experience, preferably with Middle and/or High School aged students.
• Ability to motivate players to reach their potential.
• Exceptional leadership skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Able to make quick decisions under pressure.
• Able to effectively handle stress and keep temper in check.
• Ability to observe and pay special attention to detail.
