About the Role
As our Fuels & Energy East business continues to grow, we are inviting Expressions of Interest from Safety Managers interested in expanding their experience across the bulk storage, fuels, refining and terminal infrastructure sectors. This is an opportunity to become part of a highly experienced team delivering solutions for some of Australia's most critical assets. You will gain exposure to a diverse portfolio of fuel terminals, storage facilities, refining infrastructure, brownfield modifications, asset integrity programs, capital projects and operational support activities. You'll work alongside industry experts and develop valuable experience across the full asset lifecycle, from concept and design through to procurement, construction and commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain the safety, health, and environmental management systems across fuel terminals, bulk storage facilities, pipelines, and associated infrastructure.
- Drive a strong safety culture through visible leadership, coaching, workforce engagement, and proactive risk management initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant WHS legislation, Major Hazard Facility (MHF) requirements, environmental regulations, and company standards.
- Facilitate hazard identification, risk assessments, HAZOP studies, critical control verification, and implementation of effective mitigation strategies.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action programs to prevent recurrence and improve operational performance.
- Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and contractor teams to ensure safe execution of routine, shutdown, and project activities.
- Monitor safety performance metrics, conduct audits and inspections, and provide regular reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Manage emergency preparedness and response programs, including drills, crisis management exercises, and engagement with emergency services and regulatory stakeholders.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, with relevant professional certifications highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior safety leadership role within fuel terminals, bulk liquids, hydrocarbons, energy, chemicals, heavy industry, or other high-hazard operational environments.
- Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation, Major Hazard Facility (MHF) regulations, process safety management principles, and contractor management frameworks.
- Proven capability in risk management, incident investigation, auditing, critical control verification, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across operational teams, contractors, regulators, and senior leadership.
