About the Role

Engage, advocate, communicate, and address the needs of children and youth with emotional, behavioral, mental health, or substance use challenges within contracted programs. Provide transitional services and educational workshops, promoting quality services and youth empowerment.

Responsibilities

• Engage, advocate, communicate, and address the needs of children and youth receiving services.
• Provide transitional services and educational workshops.
• Promote quality services and youth empowerment.
• Act as a mandated reporter and follow guidelines for reporting child abuse and neglect.
• Engage youth in planning their own care and ensuring their voices are heard.
• Share personal knowledge and experiences about the youth-serving system and available resources.
• Complete paperwork promptly.
• Engage and work well with others.
• Collaborate and engage with others to develop and publicize youth support groups, recreational activities, and educational workshops/training.
• Work as a team to access community resources and support for youth.
• Share general information about family and youth support programming and other community-based resources.

Requirements

• Must be an individual 18 to 30 years old.
• Must have self-identified as a person with first-hand experience with social, emotional, medical, developmental, substance use, and/or behavioral challenges.
• Must have experience receiving mental health services and/or navigating other child-serving systems.
• Must demonstrate qualities of leadership, including knowledge of advocacy.
• Must be able to positively reflect on and share personal experiences with others.
• Must possess the ability to travel.
• Must adhere to all agency guidelines, protocols, and procedures.
• Must be fully vaccinated or willing to become fully vaccinated against COVID-19 if assigned to an OMH facility.

• Various programs within NYCCC, including South Beach Psychiatric Center, RFK PS 169, Astor Case Management Services, and other contracted FOTM programs.

Experience Level

• Experience receiving mental health services and/or navigating other child-serving systems.

Education Level

• High School Diploma, or its equivalent (GED)
• College experience is a plus
