Responsibilities
- Enter meal preferences within the scope of diet restrictions.
- Deliver meals to patients in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner.
- Confirm the accuracy of the tray against the patient's order.
- Reconfirm the correct tray is delivered to the correct patient using two patient identifiers.
- Represent the hospital and department in a professional and caring manner.
- Instruct patients in the meal ordering process.
- Act as a patient advocate.
- Deliver nutrition supplies to units as ordered.
- Wash hands frequently and appropriately wear gloves.
- Perform hand hygiene upon entering and exiting patient rooms.
- Follow infection prevention practices.
- Maintain all work areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Verify menu selections are accurate and compliant with diet order.
- Seek approval or clarification of diet compliancy from Patient Meal Services Leadership and/or Clinical Dietitian.
- Escalate food allergy and diet consistency concerns.
- Promptly report adverse food reactions and outside food consumption by patients.
- Monitor and record food and/or equipment temperatures.
- Store food and/or supplies using proper labeling, dating and rotation methods.
- Operate equipment according to all safety guidelines.
- Escalate any unsafe conditions.
- Use IT equipment appropriately and protect confidential information.
- Follow department work schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Arrive at the work station prior to task start time.
- Set up, maintain, and break down workstation according to area requirements.
- Follow written and verbal instructions and station responsibilities with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Complete area checklists and forms, as assigned.
- Operate and care for equipment according to manufacturers and area specific guidelines.
- Remain flexible to support other team members across the department.
- Assist patients with menu selections, including food preferences, allergies and other diet information.
- Enter menu selections in the nutrition service software accurately and in a timely manner.
- Verify patient satisfaction with meals and conduct internal patient satisfaction surveys.
- Deliver meals to patients that meet their needs according to their cultural, spiritual, ethnic and age-specific considerations.
- Obtain additional items for patient meal trays.
- Seek approval for non-compliant meal requests.
- Deliver meals to patients throughout the day.
- Retrieve dirty trays from patient rooms.
- Assist with soiled meal tray carts on patient floors.
- Prepare and deliver snacks to various units across the hospital.
- Perform department duties including dish room, rolling silverware, floor stock replenishment, supplies requisitions, break room and general clean up.
- Intervene and resolve customer service issues as necessary.
- Use judgment to escalate customer service concerns to supervisor.
- Follow work areas uniform specifications.
- Collaborate with team members and Leadership to meet department and hospital goals.
- Communicate in a respectful manner.
- Respect the cultural traditions of team members and customers.
- Maintain competency in nutrition service software utilized for patient meal services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Requirements
- Hospital food service experience and customer service experience preferred.
- Must exhibit outstanding interpersonal skills required to work well with others.
- Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of modified diets.
- Adequate phone skills for interacting with customers (internal and external).
- Ability to perform duties in a very busy environment.
- Ability to communicate and understand the English language, both written and orally.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude in all customer/patient interactions.
