About the Role
Lighthouse Guild is seeking a part-time Social Worker/LMSW to provide a full range of social work services for individuals who are blind and visually impaired. This role involves case management, coordinating with service providers, and offering short-term psychotherapy focused on adjustment to vision loss. Bilingual Spanish/English fluency is required.
Responsibilities
- Assess client needs and develop plans to meet them.
- Make referrals for adjunct services, complete entitlement applications, and assist with accessing community resources.
- Conduct outreach to social service, housing, and other support agencies.
- Respond to client phone inquiries, providing information and referrals.
- Facilitate meetings with NYS Commission for the Blind (NYSCB) vocational rehabilitation counselors and clients.
- Write assessment and progress reports following NYSCB guidelines.
- Provide intensive individual brief psychotherapy and group work focused on adjustment to vision loss.
- Refer clients to Lighthouse Guild behavioral health or other providers for long-term services if needed.
- Meet with supervisor for case reviews.
- Manage a caseload including parents of young children with vision loss, teenagers, and adults.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- Bilingual Spanish/English fluency is required.
- Works with clients who require consistent and comprehensive support.
- Remains in a stationary position at a workstation and uses a computer approximately 90% of the time.
- Excellent English language writing skills.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
