Responsibilities
- Entering meal preferences within the scope of diet restrictions.
- Delivering meals to patients in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner.
- Confirming the accuracy of the tray against the patient's order.
- Reconfirming the correct tray is delivered to the correct patient using two patient identifiers.
- Representing the hospital and department in a professional and caring manner.
- Instructing patients in the meal ordering process.
- Assuming the role of patient advocate.
- Delivering nutrition supplies to units as ordered.
- Ensuring the safety of patients and team members according to HACCP and County Health Department Guidelines.
- Following infection prevention practices, including personal hygiene expectations.
- Maintaining all work areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Verifying menu selections are accurate and compliant with diet order.
- Seeking approval or clarification of diet compliancy from Patient Meal Services Leadership and/or Clinical Dietitian.
- Escalating food allergy and diet consistency concerns.
- Promptly reporting adverse food reactions and outside food consumption by patients.
- Monitoring and recording food and/or equipment temperatures.
- Storing food and/or supplies using proper labeling, dating and rotation methods.
- Operating equipment according to all safety guidelines.
- Using IT equipment appropriately and protecting confidential information.
- Following department work schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Setting up, maintaining, and breaking down workstation.
- Following written and verbal instructions with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Completing area checklists and forms.
- Operating and caring for equipment according to manufacturers and area specific guidelines.
- Remaining flexible to support other team members.
- Assisting patients with menu selections, including food preferences, allergies and other diet information.
- Entering menu selections in the nutrition service software accurately.
- Verifying patient satisfaction with meals and conducting internal patient satisfaction surveys.
- Delivering meals to patients that meet their needs according to cultural, spiritual, ethnic and age-specific considerations.
- Obtaining additional items for patient meal trays.
- Retrieving dirty trays from patient rooms.
- Assisting with soiled meal tray carts on patient floors.
- Preparing and delivering snacks to various units.
- Performing department duties such as dish room, rolling silverware, floor stock replenishment, supplies requisitions, break room and general clean up.
- Intervening and resolving customer service issues.
- Collaborating with team members and Leadership to meet goals and objectives.
- Communicating in a respectful manner.
- Respecting the cultural traditions of team members and customers.
- Maintaining competency in nutrition service software.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Complying with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Requirements
- Must exhibit outstanding interpersonal skills required to work well with others.
- Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of modified diets.
- Candidates must possess adequate phone skills for interacting with customers.
- Must be able to perform duties in a very busy environment.
- Must be able to communicate and understand the English language, both written and orally.
- Must be able to maintain a positive attitude in all customer/patient interactions.
