Responsibilities
- Performs phlebotomy on patients following established laboratory policy and technique.
- Assists in other laboratory functions.
- Processes specimens and operates Lab LIS.
- Handles all phone calls.
- Responds promptly to phlebotomy requests within established time frames.
- Accessions test requests in LIS and reference lab systems.
- Assists in preparing samples for analysis, including centrifugation, bar coding, and distribution.
- Reviews request forms for completion and compliance.
- Prepares phlebotomy tray with blood collection items.
- Deals with the public, including answering telephones and interacting with physicians' offices, in a courteous and professional manner.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- BLS Certification from American Heart Association required.
- Prior hospital experience preferred.
