Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy on patients following established laboratory policy and technique.
  • Assists in other laboratory functions.
  • Processes specimens and operates Lab LIS.
  • Handles all phone calls.
  • Responds promptly to phlebotomy requests within established time frames.
  • Accessions test requests in LIS and reference lab systems.
  • Assists in preparing samples for analysis, including centrifugation, bar coding, and distribution.
  • Reviews request forms for completion and compliance.
  • Prepares phlebotomy tray with blood collection items.
  • Deals with the public, including answering telephones and interacting with physicians' offices, in a courteous and professional manner.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS Certification from American Heart Association required.
  • Prior hospital experience preferred.
