About the Role

As an experienced R&D Lead, you will bring your skill, curiosity, and drive to make health simpler, smarter, and more human. You will be accountable for the end-to-end ideation to launch of innovation projects on local VMS brands and localization of global brand innovation projects in close collaboration with ANZ Brand & Innovation Heads/Leads. You will act as the R&D representative of the science team within ANZ and support the strategic direction of the brand & innovation team, allocating resources to prioritized innovation opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable to ideate, develop, and deliver the R&D pipeline for local brands to meet agreed innovation sales targets in line with the brand strategy plan.
  • Accountable to deliver a portfolio for brands balancing short-, medium-, and long-term R&D projects that utilize claims, NPD, clinicals, and packaging innovation with sustainability.
  • Accountable to ensure the delivery of fewer, bigger innovation projects by partnering with the Brand and Innovation team to strengthen projects through consumer-based insights.
  • Design and deliver pipeline for local brands based on differentiated science.
  • Localize global brand innovation projects to enable agile and connected delivery.
  • Partner with IPM to ensure timely and on-budget execution.
  • Partner with the science team in ANZ to ensure regulatory and medical strategies and directions are fully aligned and validated.
  • Partner with development centers and CDMO to ensure early engagement and contribution of development teams to product design, prototyping, and development for launch.
  • Ensure strong cross-functional teamwork to deliver the innovation pipeline.
  • Accountable to ensure all base business protection projects for local brands are identified and prioritized based on risk.
  • Ensure a strong external technology network is used to deliver and accelerate differentiated technology opportunities.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of R&D or science innovation experience in the pharmaceutical, FMCG, consumer healthcare, and/or Nutritional industry.
  • At least 5 years of experience in complementary medicine and health food innovation and new product development for the ANZ market is a significant plus.
  • Experience with OTC product development and innovation is a plus.
  • Strong science leader who can translate consumer insights into brand-led pipelines.
  • Proven track record of delivering innovation to brands.
  • Experience in risk discussions and risk mitigation plans.
  • Experience in developing integrated plans and budgets for all innovation programs in the region.
  • Experience in identifying and leveraging external partnerships, suppliers, providers, and key opinion leaders to influence innovation for ANZ local brands.
  • Experience in influencing and advising key stakeholders and the leadership team on industry trends and new opportunities for local brands.
  • Experience in E2E innovation, from ideation to launch of the innovation pipeline, together with Project Managers.
  • Familiar with the scope of innovations including BD opportunities, NPD, claims with significant impact needing clinicals, novel ingredients & formulation technologies, and sustainable solutions.
  • Knowledge and experience of understanding brand strategy, consumer insights, and translating consumer needs/problems into science solutions to build sustainable pipelines.
  • Knowledge of drug, complementary medicine, and health food regulations.
  • Ability to partner and influence across a matrix environment with strong communication skills.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
