About the Role

We are seeking a Senior AI Engineer to transition Stakemate's AI initiatives from experimental phases to robust, production-ready capabilities. Reporting to the CTO, you will identify high-value AI opportunities, influence platform and architecture design, and manage the lifecycle of AI agents from proof-of-concept to production deployment, establishing governance and safety standards for scalable AI integration. This role is ideal for an experienced builder who can guide the company's overall AI strategy.

Responsibilities

Identify high-value AI opportunities by collaborating with business teams.
Shape the AI platform and architecture.
Transition AI agents from proof-of-concept to production.
Establish governance and safety standards for AI at scale.
Build shared frameworks, templates, and infrastructure for other engineers.
Design for failure cases, including timeouts, errors, and human oversight.
Set the technical direction for agent retrieval, evaluation, behavior constraints, monitoring, and production deployment.
Determine pre-launch sign-off requirements, player data handling, and agent authority limits.
Document agent functionality, rationale for promotion, costs, and return on investment.
Act as Stakemate's AI champion through office hours, demos, and training.
Partner with department leads to identify AI applications and limitations.

Requirements

Demonstrable impact from shipped agentic or LLM-powered systems with an understanding of issues and resolutions.
Hands-on experience with an agent framework (e.g., LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, ADK) and production RAG, including embedding models, vector stores, re-ranking, and query optimization.
Strong Python experience with a solid engineering foundation in testing, version control, CI/CD, and serving APIs.
Hands-on experience with a major cloud provider's managed AI services (e.g., Azure AI Foundry, GCP/AWS equivalents).
Proficiency in SQL and relational modeling.
Strong architectural judgment, including design decisions, trade-off analysis, and optimization for cost, latency, and output quality.
Strong product sense, data-driven approach, understanding of player needs, and consideration of second and third-order effects.
Experience proving AI system behavior using eval sets, output scoring, tracing, and regression gates.
Experience with high-volume retrieval pipelines, including large-scale embedding, index freshness, and accuracy with data changes.
Experience with workflows that handle real-world complexities like timeouts, API failures, and human approval steps.
