About the Role

This position supports the Model Risk Management (MRM) program, providing governance and control around institutional models. The role involves validating models for Compliance and Financial Crimes groups, including AML, Cybersecurity, Economic Sanctions/OFAC, and Fair Lending. The Analyst will challenge model frameworks, data, implementation, and performance, documenting findings and tracking remediation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Validate models related to the Bank's Compliance and Financial Crimes groups.
  • Interface with stakeholders, regulators, and internal auditors to discuss validation outcomes.
  • Independently challenge the model’s conceptual framework and methodology, data integrity and usage, implementation framework, process/governance, and ongoing performance.
  • Generate reporting to document and present observations to model owners and developers.
  • Track corrective actions required by model risk owners to remediation.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across multiple levels.
  • Perform complex mathematical analysis utilizing various statistical and mathematical methods or techniques.
  • Design and perform analytical tests.
  • Generate reporting that clearly articulates validation considerations and outcomes.
  • Perform independent research related to the usage of advanced quantitative models.
  • Generate professional-level products such as presentations and memos.
  • Retrieve, analyze, and interpret data from various sources.
  • Aggregate data from various databases to facilitate statistical analyses.
  • Interpret results from statistical analyses and communicate them to stakeholders.
  • Read, understand, and interpret applicable internal MRM policies and regulatory rules/guidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • MA/MS in a quantitative field, and five or more years of related experience.
  • PhD in a quantitative field, and four or more years of related experience.
  • Self-motivated worker comfortable working with varying levels of guidance.
  • Ability to challenge either custom built or third-party proprietary vendor models.
  • Applicants must be able to comply with U.S. Bank policies and procedures including the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and related workplace conduct and safety policies.

Skills

  • Strong mathematical and statistical modeling or model validation experience.
  • Advanced understanding of applicable compliance laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends.
  • Prior exposure to validation or development of models across BSA/AML, Cybersecurity, Fair Lending, Economic Sanctions.
  • Working knowledge of various Machine Learning methods.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of foundational theories and methodologies of varying structural complexities, including multi-layered rule-based algorithms, standard statistical methods for outlier identification, linear or logistic regression, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning methods such as random forest, gradient boosting techniques, or other ensemble techniques.
