About the Role

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) manages child welfare and juvenile justice services. The Office of Family Team Conferencing facilitates conferences and supports child protection best practices, including processing out-of-home foster care placements for children at risk. The role focuses on family support, well-being, child safety, risk, and permanency, ensuring appropriate safety decisions and plans to prevent removal when safe, or to determine the best out-of-home placement.

Responsibilities

Attend and facilitate all FTC’s focusing on child safety, risk, well-being, and permanency.
Ensure placement and discharge decisions align with ACS commitments, values, and principles.
Address critical issues and concerns of children, families, provider agencies, divisional partners, and Family Court during conferences.
Utilize a decision-making process involving key stakeholders, children, families, service providers, and community resources.
Make recommendations for referrals and resources when appropriate.
Prepare and complete administrative functions, including timely documentation of conferences, data, action plans, and reports.
Complete Expedited Home study packages (5300 series) with kinship resources.
Make DOAS requests for items to support children in kinship resources.
Request Emergency Funds/Miscellaneous Reimbursement Payments for kin resources.
Interface with interagency critical support resources such as clinical consultation team, MCHU, and Investigative Consultants.
Provide case conferencing and consultation to ensure appropriateness of decisions and service plans.
Consult with FCLS attorney for guidance on legal posture and court orders.
Provide conferencing in the family's natural community when appropriate, necessary, and safe.

Requirements

Must pass the next open competitive exam for the Civil Service Title to avoid being 'bumped' out of the position when the eligible list is established.
Section 424-A of the New York Social Services Law requires inquiry regarding child abuse and maltreatment reports for candidates with child-caring responsibilities.
