About the Role

The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM) seeks a Transit Development (TD) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to research and apply best practices for bus priority treatments in street design projects across New York City. The SME will serve as a technical resource and designer for the TPM, D&C, and Design Unit.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the TD unit to understand broader bus priority goals.
• Conduct research with organizations such as NACTO.
• Develop design details specific to NYC applications.
• Provide presentations or training sessions to other design staff.
• Develop bus priority street designs using AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.
• Prepare concrete construction plans for bus boarding islands.
• Assemble submission packages for MTA’s External Partner Program (EPP) review.
• Review engineering design plans developed by borough project engineers.
• Review Capital Street and highway proposals and plans.
• Perform engineering design analyses.
• Present engineering judgment and recommendations for street and highway designs.
• Address other stakeholder requests.
• Work collaboratively and inclusively.
• Cultivate continued professional development.
• Foster a strong team.
• Clearly and effectively communicate verbally and through written policies, reports, and correspondence.
• Ensure adherence to all agency safety rules and regulations.
• Ensure all safety equipment and gear are used and worn properly.

Requirements

• Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work.
• A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License.
• Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of employment.
• New hires must reside in NYC for the first two years of employment.
• Must maintain a driver's license valid in the state of New York with no restrictions throughout employment.

Experience Level

• We draw on expertise and talent of Civil Engineers, Urban Designers, Planners, Asset Managers, Inspectors, Administrators, Analysts, and others to evolve and maintain the curb geometry and street plans for all NYC’s 6300+ miles of roads, create and maintain official pavement marking and concrete island plans, and oversee the application and refurbishment of NYC’s 250+ million linear feet of pavement markings (stripes, messages, colored surface treatments for bus/bike/plaza, etc.).
