About the Role
The Actuary contributes to achieving business goals by leading initiatives and advising on complex actuarial issues for a functional area with a focus on valuation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, execution and analysis of complex actuarial projects, processes, experience studies, and models to support the functional area and achieve business goals and objectives
- Lead research and analysis and provide advice on actuarial issues, methods and solutions to support business strategy development
- Provide support and guidance to team members in delivery of departmental projects and process efficiencies
- Effectively communicate, collaborate, influence and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support the development and delivery of actuarial programs
- Provide support to the Appointed Actuary by overseeing experience studies, reviewing and developing assumptions, and ensuring consistency within internal models
- Continue professional development including business knowledge development to support career progression and role competency in sustaining the company’s pool of actuarial resources
Requirements
- 8 – 10 years of relevant work experience in the insurance/financial services industry
- Completion of FSA and/or FCIA designation
- Completion of a university degree with courses in mathematics, economics and/or business
- Advanced working knowledge of actuarial applications (AXIS etc)
- Advanced working knowledge of spreadsheet, database and word processing software
- Advanced mathematical and programming skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced research, analysis and decision-making skills
- Ability to develop and negotiate innovative solutions
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage competing priorities
- Proven ability to provide guidance and share knowledge effectively
- Language proficiency in English is required for communicating with customers, advisors, or employees across Canada.
