About the Role
The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of all agency facilities and assists with Children’s Home special events as needed.
Responsibilities
- Fulfills training responsibilities according to Children’s Home, NYS Justice Center, OCFS, ORR and OMH regulations.
- Adheres to all agency policies and procedures.
- Inspects all areas of building or facility and ensures their cleanliness and functionality on a daily basis.
- Dusts and vacuums all individual spaces weekly.
- Cleans all bathrooms and areas where food services are available on a regular daily schedule.
- Cleans and vacuums all public areas of the facility daily.
- Performs light repairs not requiring assistance from the Buildings & Grounds Supervisor.
- Assists with the preparation of special events, including set-up and clean up.
- Delivers housekeeping supplies to cottages.
- Assists other support services departments as needed.
- Uses appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as required for various tasks.
- Attends all mandatory training as scheduled.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid NYS Driver License in good condition.
- Previous experience in housekeeping/custodial work.
- Must complete and pass a pre-employment physical, PPD and drug screen and an annual physical and PPD.
- At least 1 year of experience working in a congregate care environment (preferred).
- Capable of vigorous physical activity, including bending, stooping, kneeling, walking to different campus locations.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Constantly handling agency-approved cleaning and sanitizing chemicals.
- Able to safely operate job-specific machinery.
- Able to safely operate an agency vehicle in accordance with NYS motor vehicle law.
