About the Role

Performs routine medical assistant functions, including venipuncture, finger blood draws, specimen processing, and EKGs, under the direction of the Medical Practice Manager and supervision of the DTC Clinical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all routine medical assistant functions consistently and accurately, adhering to privacy and dignity standards.
  • Accurately documents participant's vital signs in the EMR.
  • Draws blood and collects specimens according to Infection Control protocols and policies.
  • Processes specimens, identifies them correctly, and matches them with request forms.
  • Orders laboratory tests as per physician's written orders and tracks test results.
  • Informs physician in writing of canceled lab tests and schedules Home Draw Labs.
  • Tracks lab supply inventory and orders supplies as necessary, adhering to approval processes.
  • Stocks examination offices with required medical supplies.
  • Performs EKGs according to policy and service standards.
  • Performs routine tests such as dipstick, blood finger stick glucose, and INR.
  • Provides services according to established safety procedures and infection control standards.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of participant information.
  • Transports participants via wheelchair or accompanies ambulatory patients.
  • Transfers participants into and out of wheelchairs, toilets, beds, and other equipment.
  • Assists participants with toileting and other ADL care.
  • Assists MD as requested, including translation and equipment setup/cleanup.
  • Seeks feedback, instruction, or additional education regarding job responsibilities.
  • Translates as needed.
  • Assists with customer issues and grievances in a timely, accurate, and courteous manner.
  • Assists with the coordination of follow-up visits and transportation for participants.
  • Provides coverage for the Front Desk Area as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical technician training.
  • Vision screening training.
  • At least 1 year of venipuncture experience, preferably with the elderly population.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Spanish bilingual.
  • Superior customer service skills, friendly, outgoing personality, tactful and courteous.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal/people skills.
  • Must embrace the role of a true “care-taker”.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to use all equipment as dictated by the position.
  • Must have the ability to concentrate on moderate details and adapt to frequent interruptions and changes.
  • Must have the ability to attend to tasks lasting from 10-90 minutes.
  • Must be self-directed with the ability to work with or without supervision.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to establish a good rapport with participants and peers is essential.
  • Must possess a pleasant telephone manner.
  • Must be able to work weekends if required.
  • Individuals must be able to sustain certain physical requirements essential to the job, including standing up to 6 hours a day, sitting/stationary positions up to 6-8 hours a day, lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds, bending/squatting, maneuvering stairs/steps/walking/climbing, demonstrating agility and fine motor skills, visual assessment of patients and documentation, attentive listening and clear speaking, and good decision-making/cognitive ability.
