About the Role

The Capital Markets division delivers innovative solutions to clients globally. As an Associate in Capital Market, Equity Research, you will join the Equities team, providing original ideas and exceptional service to institutional investors. You will work closely with a Research Analyst covering specific sectors, developing financial models, maintaining databases, and supporting industry and company analysis. This role is crucial for developing foundational knowledge in equity research and capital markets, contributing to research and client deliverables, and building skills in financial modeling, reporting, and forecasting.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Research Analyst in preparing research reports, presentations, and supporting materials.
- Builds foundational knowledge and skills related to the sectors and companies under coverage.
- Executes assigned research tasks, including updating financial models, forecasting company cash flows and earnings, inputting and analyzing data, conducting channel checks with industry contacts, and sector databases, with guidance from Analyst and Senior Associates.
- Monitors news, market developments, and research consumption trends relevant to covered companies and sectors, escalating significant findings to the Analyst and identifying high-readership topics for further exploration.
- Maintains records of research data, documentation, and historical reports in accordance with team protocols.
- Operates financial software and research tools (e.g., Excel, Bloomberg, FactSet) to assemble and analyze data as required.
- Prepares draft sections of research reports and presentations, ensuring accuracy and adherence to templates, with Analyst review.
- Participates in presentations and client meetings as required, under Analyst supervision.
- Communicates with the sales & trading desk about significant company or industry developments, under direction from the Analyst.
- Verifies the accuracy of data inputs, calculations, and report content, flagging discrepancies for Analyst review.
- Ensures all work is completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with CIBC policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Certified professional.
- Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance or business-related discipline preferred.
- Enrollment in the CFA program (or the designation) would be an asset.
- One to two years of relevant experience and interest in Capital Markets through education.
- Excellent knowledge of PC applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
- AI, programming and automation skills are also valued.
- Demonstrates interest in the capital markets industry through school courses, clubs and/or related work experience.

- Possesses strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
