About the Role

Davidson Kempner is establishing a European CLO business and seeks a Senior Research Analyst in London to support portfolio construction, analytics, and daily management. This role is crucial for launching and growing the CLO platform, requiring deep engagement in technical and analytical aspects of CLO portfolio management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead fundamental credit analysis of issuers in the European BSL and HY markets, preparing credit memoranda and recommendations.
  • Cover and track BSL/HY issuers through financial analysis of their reporting.
  • Provide investment recommendations to the Portfolio Manager based on industry trends and sector themes.
  • Develop and enhance credit research best practices and analytics, creating BSL/HY tracking and analysis templates.
  • Contribute to technology, data infrastructure, and workflow optimization, applying AI and automation tools.
  • Support investor reporting and prepare materials for roadshows and engagement.
  • Assist in building the CLO credit research team by training junior analysts on BSL credit analysis.

Requirements

  • Experience obtained from an established CLO manager or credit fund.
  • Contribute meaningfully to launching and growing a CLO platform.
  • Remain deeply engaged in the technical and analytical detail of CLO portfolio management.
  • Technically strong performing credit analyst with a contemporary mindset.
  • Interest in improving processes through technology and data-driven solutions.
  • Strong ability to research thematically and think laterally.
  • Identify cross-current trends at a macro/sector level and apply to fundamental analysis.
  • Translate analysis into actionable trade recommendations that add value or improve portfolio quality.
  • Established record of fundamental credit analysis.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to operate within a growing, entrepreneurial platform.
  • Relevant experience within a credit fundamentals driven setting (e.g., European CLO manager, performing credit fund) typically 6-10 years.
  • Meaningful exposure to current CLO trends and industry coverage.
  • Strong track record of value-add through trade recommendations adopted by principals for positive total return and/or loss avoidance outcomes.
  • Robust credit underwriting skills within the European BSL market.
  • Advanced financial modelling capabilities, including scenario analysis and sensitivity testing.
  • Familiarity with CLO portfolio management systems and analytics tools.
  • Interest in and exposure to data analytics, automation, or AI-enabled research tools.
  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented, with strong ownership mentality.
  • Pragmatic and collaborative, comfortable working within a lean team structure.
  • Execution-focused and comfortable operating in a high-velocity trading environment.
  • Curious and forward-looking, willing to challenge legacy processes and improve efficiency through technology.
  • Commercially aware, with disciplined judgment around risk and return trade-offs.
