About the Role

Global Kids is seeking creative, hard-working, and passionate individuals experienced in youth development, academic support, global education, and social action to work in New York City public Middle Schools. The Activity Specialist will design and lead engaging activities that promote personal development, academic enrichment, and social-emotional learning for students, fostering inclusive and stimulating environments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead a variety of activities, including arts, sports, STEM, and life skills, that align with the students' interests and needs.
  • Develop lesson plans that are age-appropriate, culturally responsive, and aligned with DYCD guidelines and standards.
  • Facilitate activities that encourage teamwork, leadership, and positive social interactions.
  • Chaperone field trips with students.
  • Foster a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Encourage student participation and engagement in all activities.
  • Provide individual and group support to students, addressing their social-emotional and academic needs.
  • Work closely with other staff members, including Program Directors and Group Leaders, to ensure a cohesive and integrated program.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents, guardians, and school staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Track and report on student progress and program outcomes.
  • Conduct regular assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of activities and make necessary adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with all DYCD regulations and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience working with youth in an educational or recreational setting.
  • Experience in planning and leading activities for diverse groups of students.
  • Ability to work 20-25 hours per week, with some weekends required and additional hours for planned field trips.
  • Successful completion of a background check.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment to youth development.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR preferred.
  • Fluency in other languages is a plus (particularly Spanish or Haitian Creole).

Salary/Compensations
