Responsibilities

• Partner with the sales force to grow business, identify opportunities, and ensure the company has the correct product mix at competitive pricing to garner market share.
• Develop broker/vendor relations to ensure the best products, pricing, and quality are available to the sales force.
• Create purchase orders and validate pricing, freight, and expected delivery dates.
• Work with the Accounting department to verify invoice pricing and resolve discrepancies with manufacturers or brokers.
• Review inventory status reports to maintain inventory levels and turns according to budget goals.
• Ensure service levels (stock levels with subs) are maintained at budgeted levels.
• Monitor and act on slow-moving and dead inventory by working with manufacturer reps/brokers and the sales team.
• Work with Purchasing and Vendor Relations Managers to eliminate slow-moving SKUs and drive business to preferred vendors and buying group partners.
• Utilize the internal computer system to monitor goals and margins.
• Verify order information, vendor/broker contact information, pricing, and item information for assigned vendor lines.
• Review margin reports and investigate sales below acceptable levels with management and the sales team.
• Select items for weekly flyers and seek promotional allowances from vendors to drive category sales and margins.
• Attend and participate in team meetings, and sales meetings/events as required.
• Review and update the Project & Plans worksheet monthly with the Purchasing Manager.
• Initiate and schedule ride-alongs with the Sales Team regularly.
• Stay informed on markets/supply chain relevant to categories/product lines and update the Palmer Sales Team and Weekly Market Information publication.
• Attend industry trade shows as necessary, which may require overnight travel.

Requirements

• 3+ years of food-related purchasing experience required.
• Previous food distribution experience preferred.
• Proven ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion with minimum guidance and high attention to detail.
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
• May be exposed to cold temperatures for extended periods of time.

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.

• Associate's degree in business or related field, or equivalent field experience required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.

Salary/Compensations

• $65,000- $83,000/ Yearly
