About the Role
Lead delivery across the agency, shaping a mature, transparent, and quality-assured delivery practice for digital public services. You will be accountable for delivery quality, ensuring multidisciplinary teams have the clarity, governance, coaching, and support needed to deliver excellent outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead agency-wide delivery, setting expectations for team planning, management, assurance, and improvement.
- Create conditions for teams to work with pace, discipline, transparency, and psychological safety.
- Act as the senior advocate for delivery quality, helping teams and clients make intentional trade-offs.
- Serve as the senior escalation point for clients regarding delivery risk, underperformance, blockers, and dissatisfaction.
- Coach clients on behaviors that enable successful delivery, including clear ownership, timely decisions, and evidence-led planning.
- Own the agency’s delivery controls, including RAID management, assurance reviews, delivery health checks, and dependency management.
- Codify practical templates, governance rhythms, quality gates, and internal QA processes.
- Guide teams and clients through Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live delivery, ensuring services align with the Government Service Standard.
- Prepare services for CDDO/GDS service assessments.
- Define delivery standards, competency frameworks, communities of practice, and coaching models.
- Build a collaborative, transparent, quality-assured delivery culture focused on client clarity.
- Intervene in struggling projects, support recovery planning, and help teams reset delivery approaches.
- Collaborate with Account Managers to ensure commercial decisions are informed by delivery reality and risk.
Requirements
- Experienced delivery leader from a Delivery Management or Product background.
- Proven experience leading teams through complex public-sector digital work.
- Ability to turn ambiguity into clear priorities, workable backlogs, credible delivery plans, and evidence-led decisions.
- Credible technical literacy, able to hold confident conversations with technical stakeholders.
- Understanding of modern digital technology architecture, delivery tooling, and constraints in legacy environments.
- Ability to communicate technical considerations and decisions to senior client stakeholders in non-technical terms.
- Direct experience preparing teams for GDS/CDDO service assessments.
- Understanding of how to embed the Government Service Standard into day-to-day delivery.
- Experience successfully managing public sector contracts.
- Experience building lasting client relationships.
