About the Role
The Project Manager will function as a member of the IT team, ensuring the success of all initiatives within SOCAN’s Project Portfolio. This includes managing project planning and execution according to the SOCAN Project Management Framework, advancing best practices, and driving tool adoption for the Project Management Team to improve service levels.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the improvement of current processes like Budgeting and Forecasting, and Project Onboarding.
- Identify opportunities for and define new processes to help SOCAN better achieve its goals.
- Consistently apply Project Management best practices, policies, and procedures to all projects according to the SOCAN Project Management Framework.
- Anticipate, monitor, and resolve project issues, risks, and disputes.
- Exercise initiative to solve problems and leverage escalation channels where required.
- Ensure project teams are trained and coached on SOCAN’s Project Management Framework.
- Support the team of Project Managers using coaching and mentoring to effectively apply PM best practices.
- Monitor and report project progress to Sponsors and other Stakeholders.
- Act as the project’s liaison for Portfolio Management activities.
- Perform ad-hoc analysis, report preparation, and other duties as required.
Requirements
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation from PMI preferred.
- Technical background with a post-secondary computer science or business degree preferred.
- Agile / Scrum certification is an asset.
- Over 5 years of progressive experience managing projects with budgets exceeding $1M CAD.
- Experience managing projects with over 20 project team members in a technical or business environment.
- Portfolio and Program Management knowledge.
- Experience leading multiple concurrent projects or project phases.
- Superior understanding of System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) with a focus on Quality Assurance.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Project, PowerBI, SharePoint).
- Previous leadership experience outside of project management (functional or technical).
- Experience mentoring and coaching teams and peers.
- Demonstrated team-building skills.
- Proven ability to work independently.
- Strong experience with contract development, negotiation, and vendor management.
- Strong Risk Analysis management knowledge and experience.
- Strong estimation, planning, and decision analysis skills.
- Strong analytical/critical thinking skills.
- Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Strong customer service orientation focused on delivering customer value.
- Collaborative leadership style with strong listening skills.
- Ability to develop good working relationships and build consensus across multiple stakeholders.
