About the Role

The Pharmacy Technician assists licensed pharmacists by preparing and dispensing prescription medications and supplies under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist. This role is critical for patient safety and care in a fast-paced pharmacy environment, requiring attention to accuracy, regulatory compliance, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform job assignments in full compliance with URAC, state and federal laws, and internal policies and procedures governing medication handling and dispensing.
  • Provide support to Pharmacists by entering prescription information and submitting claims for payment.
  • Handle patient questions and concerns regarding medications within state-determined limits.
  • Communicate with patients, facilities, payors, and prescribers regarding prescription issues and obtain necessary authorizations and details for refills.
  • Assist in the prior authorization process to expedite prescription fulfillment.
  • Gather and document demographics for prescription filling and medication billing.
  • Engage with patients by delivering medications per 'meds to bed' program guidelines and provide customer service.
  • Prepare, label, and dispense medications under Pharmacist supervision.
  • Prioritize and navigate the pharmacy system's print queue, print medication labels, and check inventory balances.
  • Support Pharmacist in maintaining accurate inventory levels.
  • Sort and stock inventory of medications, vials, and dispensing supplies, and return excess stock or unused medications to inventory.
  • Assist with the packaging and shipping of medications and supplies.
  • Ensure patient order completion by reviewing patient profiles.
  • Monitor and triage incoming faxes/documents and process incoming orders.
  • File, fax, and copy various materials as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and additional specialized training as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience working as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy sig codes, medications, and electronic claim submissions strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift and move heavy packages (up to 30 lbs.) in compliance with safe handling procedures.

Skills

  • Consistent focus and attention to detail resulting in superior accuracy.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to track and monitor progress of workflows.
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to navigate pharmacy system and Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) applications.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting with a focus on detail, accuracy, and productivity.
  • Proven experience as a highly effective communicator (listening, speaking, understanding, and writing in English).
  • Basic pharmacy billing experience.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, medication names, and pharmacy sig codes.
