About the Role

Laboratory Aides assist technicians and pathologists in a hospital clinical laboratory, a medical research laboratory, or a morgue by performing semi-skilled routine tasks and clerical duties. They support medical staff in diagnosis and research staff in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Accession patient specimens using computer system and/or manual procedures.
  • Record data into appropriate accession log books.
  • Review patient specimens for proper labeling, patient identification, and appropriate sample type and size.
  • Process and prepare patient specimens for analysis, including centrifugation and measurement of 24-hour urines.
  • Answer telephone inquiries regarding patient services and specimen collection requirements.
  • Maintain records of laboratory reports and perform other clerical duties.
  • Learn computer systems to obtain data, report test results, and generate orders.
  • Provide backup support in laboratory stat service and transport specimens.
  • Adhere to all policies and protocols for quality patient care and safety.
  • Perform inventory control and stock shelves.

Requirements

  • No minimum education or experience requirements.
  • Resume/CV should be included with the online application.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance.
  • Must complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
  • Must successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
  • Must meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Must provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
  • Failure to comply with pre-employment requirements may result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
