About the Role
Ensures the highest standards of environmental safety and operational excellence by effectively managing the day-to-day operations of the assigned MRF and maintains cost management within the MRF. The successful candidate is a visible, hands-on leader who thrives under pressure, makes sound real-time decisions, and drives a strong culture of accountability, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Ensures smooth operation of site, including: gatehouse, sorting, loading.
- Ensures system is performing at highest level.
- Minimizes handling and operational costs.
- Continually works to reduce turnaround time for trucks in and out of site.
- Regularly proposes means of operational improvement.
- Acts as a liaison, where necessary, for community relationships and customers.
- Oversee and manage WM contractual obligations.
- Complies with and ensures adherence to WM’s Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
- Submits reasonable budget information and analyzes data versus year-to-date data and prior year budget.
- Assists in creating a positive team-oriented environment through employee development and motivation.
- Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the physical property of the MRF through inspections and preventive maintenance programs with supervisors/employees.
- Oversees personnel needs of the MRF including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance.
- Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
- Conducts and/or attends and contributes to periodic safety meetings.
- Provides training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
- Updates and submits required reports in a timely manner.
- Identify and eliminate waste to improve flow, reduce downtime, and optimize labor and equipment utilization.
- Lead problem-solving initiatives using structured methodologies.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement with measurable results.
- Build, coach, and develop supervisors and frontline teams.
- Set clear expectations and hold teams accountable for performance and behavior.
- Foster a positive, engaged, and high-performing work environment.
- Motivate teams during high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and discipline.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.
- 7 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).
- Experience leading a team of 3-4 salaried employees including supervisors (as well as above required experience and education).
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire and influence teams.
- Calm and decisive under pressure, with strong problem-solving ability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Data-driven mindset with strong analytical capabilities.
- High level of ownership, accountability, and integrity.
- Must have, or be willing to obtain, a REAL ID or TSA-approved alternative for potential air travel or access to federal property.
